BLANKET AMERICA CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES ON THE TODAY SHOW!!

(December 18, 2009) New York, NY - Tune in to NBC's Today Show Sunday, December 20 at 8:30 a.m. EST to see the launch of Blanket America with Founder Mesh Gelman and Actress Tamara Tunie (Law & Order: SVU, Sex & the City).

When you buy from Blanket America, you also give: BUY 1, GIVE 1.

This is our vision.

For every quilt sold, Blanket America will donate a blanket to an American in need. Traditional charitable organizations act as intermediaries between fundraising and actual donated goods. Our vision is to eliminate this gap. That’s why when you buy from Blanket America you also give.

In his inaugural speech, President Obama described America as having a “patchwork heritage.” Obama called on Americans of every color, creed, language and culture to join hands in order to make real progress and lasting change in America and in the world. Blanket America is our response to Obama’s call to action. We want to be part of his vision of unity, and we want you to join to us. With over 40 million Americans living in poverty, and with heating costs and joblessness on the rise, it is clear that individuals must work together to fulfill Obama’s pledge to transform America. Ask your friends to join Blanket America and show the nation it's time for a change. Spread the message, buy a blanket, or just donate some blankets by visiting us on Facebook http://ping.fm/yWD0Q

Blanket America is about more than blankets. It is about changing the way charity and business works. Most of all, it is about encouraging citizens to become more than consumers. We dream of a society in which people with the resources to feed themselves, clothe themselves, and shelter themselves from the cold take some responsibility, every time they make a purchase, for those who are in need.

From sackcloth quilts born of Depression-era necessity to the code quilts of the Underground Railroad, from World War I Red Cross quilts to those commemorating personal milestones of weddings and births, quilts have long been a part of our national conversation. By purchasing the Patchwork Heritage Quilt, you are providing a warm blanket to an American in need, bringing us closer to our goal of providing 1,000,000 blankets to our country's neediest citizens this year.

"Blanket America answers a bipartisan call to action inspired by President Obama's inaugural speech,” says actress Tamara Tunie. "As we approach the one-year anniversary of his oath to office, it's important that we reflect on the changes the President has inspired in the American people. This campaign is a perfect example of spearheading the idea that we can prosper while at the same time enriching the lives of those around us."

In conjunction with the Today Show announcement, multimedia retailer QVC is scheduled to unveil the Blanket America initiative on QVC.com Sunday, December 20. The blankets will then be available, starting in January, at JC Penney and Amazon.com.

Blanket America Charity Collection Helps those in Need

The Blanket America Patchwork Heritage Collection is one which will add beauty and comfort to your home while giving you the knowledge that you have helped others with your purchase. Our nation holds a vastly varied amalgam of citizens from all languages, countries and creeds. We are a patchwork nation. Only through the concept of our "patchwork heritage" uniting as one do we become powerful, our different shapes and sizes sewn together for one common purpose. This culmination of patches uniting to help the needy is what the Patchwork Heritage Collection is celebrating.

This year more than 35 million people in our country are living in poverty, unable to afford the basic necessities that help us survive. Millions will go cold this winter without the help of others who are more fortunate. Our President has called us to action in order to be part of the solution. With determination and pride, we can each do our small part to make a big difference in the lives of those in need. In the words of our forefathers, "united we stand, divided we fall." With this in mind, the President and First Lady have created the Blanket America project to work in conjunction with Gifts in Kind to make a difference. It is up to us to do our part.

The best part in this project is that you are rewarded with a lasting heirloom for doing your part as well as having the knowledge that you did your part to create the solution to a huge problem.

With your purchase of the Patchwork Heritage Quilt, one blanket will be donated to an individual or family in desperate need of help. You can help Blanket America reach its goal of 1,000,000 blankets donated to the needy. The collection includes stylish and meaningful pieces to complement your home's décor while giving you a sense of pride.

The face of the Patchwork Heritage Quilt is comprised of 13 unique fabrics representing the 13 original colonies. On the reverse side is the entire Presidential Inaugural speech, which highlights the words "Patchwork Heritage." The shams, sold separately, mirror the front of the quilt and have a textured print back. The flag decorative pillow, also sold separately, also features printed artwork on front and back and features printed artwork highlighting the words, "Patchwork Heritage is a strength, not a weakness."

The Patchwork Heritage Collection also comes with a 14 page booklet highlighting the history of the quilt and the president's call to action as well as your Patchwork Heritage Awareness car magnate. Prices of the quilt begin and $59.99. You can find a list of participating local retailers or you can order directly online through Blanket America's website http://ping.fm/flZDC or from Amazon's website at http://ping.fm/ddA9g

On January 20th, 2009, President Obama delivered his famous inaugural address. He referred to our “patchwork heritage” as one of the unique features of our country. This message was the inspiration for this new program celebrating American diversity. The words of this inspiring speech are featured on the reverse side of the Blanket America Patchwork Quilt.

Blankets- New Blanket America Program offers Heritage Quilts

New Blanket America Program offers Heritage Quilts

The patchwork quilt has long been an American tradition, symbolizing unity and strength. There is a new program beginning with the presidents support to bring 1,000,000 blankets to the needy this year.

The wonderful thing about this program is that it brings people together to make the goal possible. By offering lovely patchwork quilts backed with the January 20th 2009 inaugural address, the program will use your purchase to provide a blanket to those in need.

The Blanket America Patchwork Heritage Quilt features 13 fabrics in the traditional patchwork design. Each fabric piece represents a piece of our unique American strength, our diversity. Sewn together by the spirit of good will, the pieces come together to create unity. This design was inspired by President Obama’s message of the value of our “patchwork heritage.”

With the purchase of a Blanket America quilt a donation of another blanket will be made through a partnership with Gifts In Kind International. We see many opportunities to benefit others through our purchases this year, and this is one of the best. It is a one for one donation, meaning that your participation makes a real, tangible difference for another family this year.

Stories, ideas, and progress of the program will be discussed at www.blanketamerica.com. This website will bring together information and inspiring stories from the members of this movement. Sharing these experiences will be another benefit of getting involved.

The quilts are available in a Throw or Lap Quilt size for $59.99, Full/Queen size for $79.99, and King size for $99.99. These prices are affordable and an excellent value for patchwork quilts. There is a size to fit your ability to participate, and all include the blanket donation to the less fortunate. Optional pillows and pillow shams will complete the ensemble.

This project is expected to increase in visibility and support as celebrities and public figures become involved. There are over 35 million Americans in poverty this year with a large portion of these being children. With widespread support Blanket America can meet the goal of providing 1,000,000 blanket this year to these families.

This is an excellent opportunity and an exciting way to support President Obama’s message of hope and compassion. Be sure to join in, be part of our patchwork heritage, and proudly display this keepsake quilt for its own beauty and for the generosity it represents.

Blanket America provides up to 1,000,000 Blankets

Blanket America provides up to 1,000,000 Blankets

The goal of this new program is to provide up to 1,000,000 blankets to the needy this year, free of charge, with your help. Each purchase of a Blanket America patchwork quilt will provide another blanket to those in need.

Led by President Obama’s Inaugural call to action, this program was initiated to provide warmth while building an active, involved, community based action. The Inaugural Address called on Americans to bond together and take individual responsibility for each other.

Finding a way to be involved can be difficult for most of us. This is a way to be directly involved in helping others this year, with a simple purchase of a quality product. Without any extra effort, you can be a part of Obama’s vision, each of us working together like the pieces of a quilt.

We are a melting pot of many cultures and beliefs, stronger together than apart. This quilt of Americans is strong, much stronger than each piece would be alone. By commemorating this message in a patchwork quilt, Blanket America is making it possible for you to remember and treasure this ideal while making the contribution of another blanket to those in poverty.

This gesture of hope and compassion comes in the form of a colorful quilt made with patches of 13 different fabrics. It will fit in with any color scheme, and is backed with the words of the January 20th, 2009 Inaugural Speech highlighting the patchwork heritage of America. The quilt is available as a throw, full/queen, or king size with optional matching pillows and shams.

For each quilt purchased a blanket will be donated by Gifts In Kind International to a needy family. With the purchase of your quilt you will receive an informational booklet explaining the program, as well as a car magnet to display. These can help spread the word about Blanket America and show your support for this important work.

A quilt is a traditional gift for a new family, and this one would be especially touching coming as it does with the knowledge of helping others.

The website http://www.blanketamerica.com is being set up to handle information, personal thoughts and wishes for the project, and will be online soon. Your input will be an important part of the success of the program. Together the pieces come together for a stronger whole. The program has the potential to make a real difference with one million blankets this year. Watch for more Blanket America information to be a part of the solution.

Blanket America - A Nation United Under One Blanket

A Nation United Under One Blanket

There is a movement under way to give away 1,000,000 blankets to the needy this year. Inspired by President Obama’s message of our patchwork heritage, Blanket America is under way. The purchase of each keepsake quilt will ensure the donation of a warm blanket to the less fortunate.

Blanket America (see www.blanketamerica.com coming soon) is a program inspired by this message of unity. The program offers a heritage quilt with a fabric patchwork design on the front, with the words of the President’s January 20th, 2009 address on the reverse. This keepsake quilt represents our unity and generous spirit as a nation.

For each quilt purchased a blanket will be donated through Gifts In Kind International. The goal is to reach as many of the 35 million Americans who live in poverty as possible with a message of caring and support and a practical gift of warmth.

With the oncoming winter and economic struggles facing families, these quilts will represent a message of hope and unity, bringing Americans together as they share thoughts and wishes on www.blanketamerica.com. This will be the center for sharing the message as we move forward on this project.

Prices for the quilts are very reasonable, starting at $59.99, and no additional donation is needed to make the gift of a blanket, this will be a part of each purchase. There are also matching pillows and pillow shams available to complete the set. These are colorful patchwork and will easily work in any color scheme.

As President Obama stated, our patchwork heritage is the blending of all the people, much stronger together than apart. He called on the nation to unite and to help one another. This quilt symbolizes that mission of mercy.

Comprised of 13 different fabrics representing the 13 original states, these patchwork quilts will be available in three sizes, lap blanket, full/queen, and king. Along with the decorative pillow shams they will become family keepsakes representing your support of this nationwide program and a remembrance of your gift to others.

Also included is a car magnet to help spread the word about the program and let people know you are involved. The magnet is a patchwork design and will safely attach to your vehicle. These are expected to be very popular and are only available with the purchase of the Blanket America quilt.

We truly are a patchwork nation, sewn of pieces of different size and strength. Together we create a fabric of unity and caring which will cover the nation and keep us warm. Please join this community movement and support our heritage and history of working together in adversity.

Blankets- Blankets For The Needy

Charity begins at home

A new program makes it possible to practice this rule and help the underprivileged while enjoying the warm feeling of generosity wrapped in your own patchwork quilt. Blanket America, inspired by President Obama’s vision of our patchwork America, brings this vision to life.

With each purchase of a Blanket America patchwork quilt a donation of a warm blanket will be made to the needy. This is made possible through a partnership with Gifts In Kind International. Further details will be available at www.blanketamerica.com soon.

The key is a piecework quilt comprised of many fabrics, symbolizing the blending of cultures and beliefs to create a stronger America. Beautiful and practical, the patchwork quilt is an American tradition of generosity, with women coming together to create warm bedding from the pieces available. These quilts were then gifted to one of the women or a needy family in the area.

You can carry on this tradition with your purchase of one of these quilts from Blanket America, keeping the lovely quilt while a donation is made of another blanket for each one purchased. Quilts are available as a throw, Queen, or King size with prices ranging from $59.99 to $99.99. Matching pillow shams and decorative throw pillows are also available.

Sizes are as follows:
Throw 60” x 70”
Full/Queen 90” x 90”
King 104” x 90”

President Obama’s January 20th address to the nation was a call to all Americans to help one another and to find the unity and compassion to weather these times. Only by working together through programs such as this can we succeed. The president highlighted our “patchwork heritage” as one of the characteristics that will lead us through hard times.

Also included with the quilt for those who participate is a Blanket America car magnet featuring the patchwork pattern in the shape of the United States. Displaying this magnet on the go, and your new quilt in your home, will help to spread the word about this mission to provide one million blankets to the needy this year.

Sown together for the common good, this quilt is backed with the President’s Inaugural Speech in its entirety, commemorating our patchwork heritage. It is a wonderful way to show our united spirit in helping the less fortunate.

This project is sure to be a popular and well-recognized way to show your pride and patriotism while supporting the message of strength through unity. Watch for your chance to be a part of Blanket America.

New Organization Has the Poor Covered

1-888-829-5431

New Organization Has the Poor Covered

Blanket America, a newly formed organization with the purpose of helping those below poverty, will be offering warmth to the helpless this winter. The organization was started because of the founders’ recognition that too many people in this country are left out in the cold each winter with little or nothing to keep them warm or help them avoid getting sick.

In order to help those in need of warmth this winter, Blanket America will provide blankets to anyone who’s unfortunate so they can stay warm, dry, and healthy. The organization has set a big goal for its first year in existence of one million blankets and wants to distribute as many blankets as possible to people all over the United States as it tries to meet the huge goal the organization’s founding members have set for themselves.

Considering that “approximately 3.5 million people, 1.35 million of them children, are likely to experience homelessness in a given year” (National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, 2007), with roughly 13 to 17% living below the federal poverty line at any given point in time, and roughly 40% falling below the poverty line at some point within a 10 year time span (^ Zweig, Michael (2004) What's Class Got to do With It, American Society in the Twenty-first Century. ILR Press) the members of the new Blanket America organization will definitely have their work cut out for them. Members of Blanket America say they’re excited to start giving out blankets to the overwhelming number of people who’ll need the organization’s help to keep warm this winter and in future winters as well.

More details will be forthcoming as other charities get involved with actual distribution.
